Global Commodities Newsletter | July 2023
Dear customers, partners and friends of EEX,

So here we are, just over midway through 2023 – where has the time gone?

In my last update we were discussing “green shoots” emerging with the relaxation of travel restrictions and I know since then, the team have really enjoyed getting back out “on the road” again to meet you in person. I must say, on a personal note, I’m also really looking forward to seeing you all in the coming months at our events in London and Singapore.

On the Global Commodities front, it’s been a very busy six months. Building this business in partnership with you is at the heart of everything we do, so I was very pleased that we have been able to deliver on important initiatives, which provide much needed benefits for our customers. We’re consistently committed to margin improvements, and this is something I am proud will continue into the second half of 2023 and beyond. In June, we introduced a series of improvements to our Touchpoint platform in the latest release. We have also been busy introducing new option expiries to the Freight market. But hey, I’ve a feeling I’m stealing the newsletter’s thunder here - so read on for the full run down on everything we’ve been up to…

Happy Reading, and hopefully we can connect in London!

Kind Regards,

Steffen Köhler

New option expiries available in the Freight market

The FFA options market continues to grow and mature with higher volumes and more participants than ever before. The development of the market has created the need for new hedging and trading strategies, including the need for longer dated options. In response to this, on 26th June EEX extended Freight options expiries from 36 to 72 months forward for Capesize, Panamax and Supramax options.
Trading longer dated strategies remains a niche part of the overall FFA options market but when these trades are done, it is vitally important that participants can clear the whole strip at the same time, therefore effectively transferring the risk from their business to EEX and our clearing house ECC. The extension of expiries allows traders to do this and provides our customers with a larger portfolio of products to serve their business requirements.

Today, this feature-rich system provides a comprehensive range of trade registration and administration services and tools, allowing users to control all parts of the OTC trade workflow. We have added some new features to the platform for you!
