Freight Newsletter | June 2024
Dear Customers, Partners and Friends,

Here we are, almost midway through 2024 – where has the time gone?

On the freight front, it’s been a busy six months building this business in partnership with you. So, I was very pleased that we have been able to deliver on important initiatives which provide additional benefits to our customers. As the global commodities landscape continues to evolve, the EEX team is excited to share several key developments and upcoming events in our latest newsletter. This edition highlights significant milestones plus new product and service launches that demonstrate our commitment to innovation and market leadership.

We are looking forward to our upcoming working group meeting in London. This will be a great opportunity to discuss freight topics in an informal setting with the opportunity for networking. Of course, your participation and input will be invaluable as I always look forward to the fruitful conversations with you.

Happy Reading, and hopefully we can connect in London!

New Supramax contracts

EEX announces the intention to offer new Supramax 11 TC futures and options contracts later in 2024. This new contract offering supports the continuous update of the dry bulk segment and will provide our customers with new hedging and trading opportunities. This launch is poised to strengthen our position in the maritime freight market and demonstrates our continued commitment to this market segment.

EEX LNG portfolio development
Artikeltitel

In April, EEX successfully launched cash settled USD / MMBtu TTF futures. We plan to further develop this portfolio with the launch of LNG Freight Futures contracts later in 2024. LNG is an exciting new area for EEX which links our global commodities portfolio to EEX’s core power and gas markets in Europe and Japan.

EUA shipping price signals via EEX Market Data
Since January 2024, the maritime sector has been included in the European Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS). Before the shipping industry entered the scheme, EEX worked side by side with market participants and stakeholders preparing for a smooth integration. Next to trading and clearing services, EEX markets offer strong price signals that drive risk management and investment decisions for industry players. The maritime sector has already taken advantage of the benefits of these price signals on freight products and is now extending to EU carbon.

EEX has established itself as the leading auction platform for emission allowances in Europe providing an important reference for the entire market. To ensure the seamless integration of prices for further processing, EEX provides multiple ways to consume the data in different granularity. Analytics solutions are also available, provided directly by EEX or via its partners.
